An overview of the past year and a quick preview of whats coming this year in the world of Web Development.

Now that 2009 is officially over it has definitely been a great year for web development we are about to embrace on an even better year for the web development world. In 2009 we saw amazing support for JavaScript and much faster browsers that allow for us web developers to create much more interactive websites (without flash).

The world of javascript has enabled us to develop apps that are starting to compete with native applications for the various operating systems. The past year we have seen a very progressive push for the new web standards like HTML5 and CSS3. Thanks to googles never ending effort to excel the web forward. The announcement for IE9 has brought much hope in my mind that IE will finally support the more current technologies and allow us to develop websites faster and much much prettier. Even though today people still use IE6, if you check out the web browser statistics you will see a very impressive speed of ie users upgrading to the newest ie browser available so I have much hope for a fast adoption of IE9. The enavu network is launching a new html, css and grid framework that is exclusively built on the HTML5 standards and uses a combination of CSS3 and JavaScript to support all modern browsers.

The year 2010 also brings a whole new light to the world of mobile web development. The most notable web based apps for our phones can be found from google, namely gmail for the iphone and google rss reader, personally i believe they did an amazing job with those and have given me much inspiration to develop web based apps rather than native iphone apps.

This year flash will as always gain much more ground in the web development world, with CS5 being able to create iphone apps flash popularity will most definitely raise yet again. Personally not being a fan of flash I will agree that it allows for a whole different set of online apps (online photoshop replacements like the aviary suite) and of course Adobe Air and Adobe Flex all making amazing improvements to the ability of using ActionScript to develop multi platform applications.

With all of that in mind it is going to be an amazing year, as i mentioned before the enavu network is going to have a huge year as well. We are launching a series of new products, and updating the designs of our blogs. If you are not introduced with the enavu network we are a network of web development websites ranging from blogs (webdevmania, tutsvalley, and more coming), project management tools (freedcamp), social bookmarking (bookmrk.it),and  an HTML5 CSS3 framwork (52framework). We are going to start gaining momentum and offer some of the most helpful tools you can imagine. Stay tuned!
