A list of the top 6 actually useful Free Icon Sets. I have used all of these at one point of my Web Design career so i know they have real design implementation.

There are so many icon sets out there, i just wanted to make a simple list of the top ones that are actually useful. So here is the list

1. [2,225 icons]Fugue Icon Set (personal favorite) if you need small (16×16px) icons… this set will have EVERYTHING you can possibly think of.
   

2. [128 icons]Function Icon Set is an amazing set with large icons (48×48px) i use this set if I am not using the small icons in Fugue… look for the Function Paid set which is complimentary to this one.
   

3. [49 icons] SmashingMagazine Icon Set is larger that the previous two and it’s a vector set so you can resize them as big as you like. They come default 128×128px.
   

4. [unknown] DryIcons is full of free icon sets that are very useful. Usually they are supplied in all the regular sizes 16 32 128 etc.
   

5. [700]FamFamFam set is a lot like the Fugue set, but the icons are a little different, i have them combined on my hd. Amazing tiny icons (16×16px).
   

6. [100 icons] Onebit Set has two different sets. Very useful icons. The size is 48×48px.
